The Department of Business and Finance at the Vocational School of Diponegoro University, as a department focused on economic issues, organized a Summer Course with the theme “Exporting for a Sustainable Tomorrow: The Crucial Role of Sustainability in International Trade.” This theme was chosen to equip both domestic and international students with the knowledge and practical skills necessary for sustainable international trade and ethical business practices.

The event was held in a hybrid format, consisting of both online and on-site visit sessions. The online session was conducted over three days, on August 26, 27, and 30, 2024. By invited competent speakers, Summer Course from Department of Business and Finance was able to provide a forum for both domestic and international students to learn about international trade, its practical steps, and how to manage sustainable financial reporting. In addition to the material explanations, participants were also invited to discuss and present the results of their discussions on the last day of the online session. The participants are very nice, as they were able to understand the material presented and effectively present their work.

The on-site visit session was held over two days, on September 3-4, 2024. On the first day, participants visited the Tanjung Mas Semarang Customs Office. In there, participants were given knowledge and experience about the various tasks handled by Customs, which was explained directly by representatives from the Tanjung Mas Semarang Customs Office. Afterward, participants were move to the PELINDO Tanjung Mas Semarang. In addition to gaining knowledge about operational procedures, they had the opportunity to tour the port.

On the second day of the on-site visit, participants were invited to explore the history and culture of Semarang. Participants were taken on a tour of the Old City or “Kota Lama” and were also explained by a tour guide about what happen that had taken place in the Kota lama in the past. After visiting the Kota Lama, participants were taken to Lawang Sewu, a famous historical icon in Semarang. The participants, especially international students, were very enthusiastic when invited to explore the history and culture of Semarang.

The Summer Course organized by the Department of Business and Finance provided an extraordinary experience for participants to deepen their knowledge of sustainable international trade and could serve as a valuable asset for their future endeavors.
