Valenciennes, France – Indonesian culture shone brightly on an international culturise event titled “Batik, Beats, and Bites” (08/10), organized by Adel Brillina Purwanto, a 2024 IISMA (Indonesian International Students Mobility Awards) Awardee from the Logistics Management and Administration Program at Diponegoro University. Along with 19 fellow awardees, Adel successfully showcased the diversities of Indonesian culture at Université Polytechnique Hauts-de-France (UPHF), France.

This cultural exchange event highlighted the unique aspects of Indonesia, from arts and traditional games to its signature culinary delights. As a hallmark fabric representing the nation, batik became one of the main attractions of the event. Participants had the opportunity to observe and try on batik outfits in a dedicated photobooth session. Traditional Indonesian games also added an element of fun and excitement to the event.

Indonesian cuisine, however, stole the spotlight. Dishes like nasi kuning (yellow rice), nasi uduk (fragrant coconut rice), rempeyek (savory crackers), traditional desserts, and the herbal drink wedang uwuh became the perfect culinary complement to the event.

The program concluded with a performance of Ikan Nae di Pante, a traditional dance from East Nusa Tenggara. All 2024 IISMA Awardees performed the dance enthusiastically and invited participants to join in a flashmob, creating a lively and memorable experience.

Batik, Beats, and Bites was not only a platform for cultural introduction but also a testament to the strong collaboration between Adel and the 19 other IISMA awardees. The event successfully attracted more than 200 participants, including local and international students, all eager to immerse themselves in the richness of Indonesian culture.
