Masaji Kargosentra Tama, or more commonly known as MKT, is a subsidiary of Samudera Indonesia with its headquarters located in Jakarta. PT. Masaji Kargosentra Tama is a leading company in the field of warehousing and Container Freight Station (CFS) services for both import and export. Currently, PT. Masaji Kargosentra Tama has expanded its services to become a Multimodal Transport Business Entity (BUAM). This development is one of the reasons why students pursuing logistics studies, especially those in the Management and Logistics Administration (MAL) program at the Vocational College of Diponegoro University, are interested in visiting the company.
The company visit to PT. Masaji Kargosentra Tama, located in the Cipta Industrial Area of Semarang, was conducted by several MAL students, namely Alifya, Fatiyyah, Happy, Karra, and Yudho, on Friday, November 15, 2024. The purpose of the visit was to observe on-site the implementation of Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) practices. This observation activity was part of the course requirements for the OHS Management subject, aimed at providing students with a real-world understanding of the importance of OHS in company operations.
Upon arrival at PT. Masaji Kargosentra Tama, students were required to present their identification cards and a visit authorization letter before entering the company premises. This procedure was in place to ensure that only authorized personnel could access the operational areas. Before starting the field observation, the students were gathered in the meeting room of PT. Masaji Kargosentra Tama to receive a general briefing on the company’s OHS practices. The briefing began with an overview of the company’s profile and included information on various OHS standards implemented at the company, such as the provision of personal protective equipment (PPE), first aid kits, evacuation procedures, and certifications held by the operators of lifting and transport equipment.
Before touring the warehouse for their observation, students were directed to wear PPE, as it is mandatory for everyone, including visitors and employees, to use PPE when entering the warehouse. During the tour, students observed that fire extinguishers (APAR) were placed at strategic locations throughout the warehouse, accompanied by clear usage instructions. These fire extinguishers were easily accessible. In addition, the warehouse featured pedestrian pathways, ensuring the safety of foot traffic by separating pedestrian routes from those used by lifting and transport equipment. Equally important were the OHS signs, including evacuation routes and assembly points.
This observation activity was highly beneficial for the students, as it provided them with a deeper understanding of the significance of implementing OHS measures in a company. Moreover, the students gained insights into the positive impacts of well-implemented OHS practices and the potential consequences of neglecting OHS standards in a business environment.
